This Thursday, we premiered the documentary The Voices of Sakana: Forging Dreams in Iron at the Lakuntza Cultural Center — a commemorative production celebrating the 50-year history of the industrial cooperative. The event brought together more than 120 people, including local residents, former workers, and founding members, who were able to relive half a century of shared history.
The screening, presented by journalist Zuberoa García, combined a documentary format with a discussion, offering a chronological journey through the company’s most significant milestones from its founding in 1975 to the present day.
During the opening of the event, SAKANA Group’s General Manager, Jaime Urcola, explained that the goal of the audiovisual project was to pay tribute to the people who have built the cooperative over the years. “We wanted something that would serve as a living memory — capturing the voices, faces, and emotions of those who have been part of this story. Fifty years is not just a round number, but an opportunity to look back with gratitude and forward with commitment,” said Urcola.
Also speaking was the cooperative’s Vice President, Julen Razkin, who emphasized the value of the documentary as a tool for intergenerational connection and as a symbol of the participatory spirit that defines SAKANA Group.
Through interviews with founding members, workers, and executives, The Voices of Sakana revisits the key moments in the cooperative’s evolution, highlighting the importance of collective effort, continuous learning, and strong local roots.
The production places special emphasis on the values that have guided SAKANA Group’s model: collaboration, equality, and long-term vision. As Julen Razkin noted during the post-screening discussion, “This documentary is a mirror of SAKANA Group’s soul: a cooperative company with deep roots and wings to keep growing.”
